Harmonising Expert Testimony - Barry Turner, University of Lincoln

06/04/12. On the 16th and 17th March this year a symposium was held in Brussels to draw up plans for a Europe wide register and regulation of expert witnesses. The main elements of the new regulation involve the role of the judge in appointing the expert, the recognition and registration of experts by reference to qualifications and experience, the definition of the experts mission, a common format for expert reports and the ethics and possible sanctions on experts who fail to reach acceptable standards of competence, ethics or due care.
